Glasgow Hogmanay

Edinburgh may be most famous for their Hogmanay celebrations but lets not forget that Glasgow is only a step behind when it comes to New Year revellery. Every year around 100,000 locals take to the streets of Scotland’s second city to ring in the New Year in tipsy style.

The main Hogmanay celebrations take place in George’s Square where, for those who have got their tickets early on, the night is filled with entertainment. Presenters from Radio Clyde, the fantastic local station will play host to the 25,000 revellers expected to turn up to the square this year. They will introduce music from across the country and across the genres, from pop to classical to folk, which will keep you dancing throughout the night.

The Strathclyde Police Pipe Band will be taking to the stage (and, no doubt, keeping an eye on all you rowdy party people!) to really get you in to the swing of things, closely followed by The Midden, a female folk band who will add a little tradition to the proceedings. Simone Welsh is also booked for the event and will be providing her own unique violin/vocal stylings to the proceedings.

However, the big draw for the night is a late night performance from Scottish rock band Snow Patrol, who this year have set the charts alight and become one of the most influential bands of the moment. DJ’s will also be keeping the crowds moving in between live sets and an extra special midnight moment has been promised (even we don’t know what’s going to happen!).

So, for a Hogmanay to remember take yourself down to George’s Square - just don’t forget to wrap up warm!
